Three Blinde Mice

By admin

This is probably the best known round in the world. The origin of the words to the Three blind mice rhyme are based in English history. The ‘farmer’s wife’ refers to the daughter of King Henry VIII, Queen Mary I. Mary was a staunch Catholic and her violent persecution of Protestants led to the nickname of ‘Bloody Mary’. The reference to ‘farmer’s wife’ in Three blind mice refers to the massive estates which she, and her husband King Philip of Spain, possessed. The ‘three blind mice’ were three noblemen who adhered to the Protestant faith who were convicted of plotting against the Queen - she did not have them dismembered and blinded as inferred in Three blind mice - but she did have them burnt at the stake! A version of this rhyme was published in Deuteromelia or The Seconde part of Musicks melodie (1609). The editor of the book, and possible author of the rhyme, was Thomas Ravenscroft , who in 1609 was still a teenager. The original lyrics are:

Three Blinde Mice,

three Blinde Mice,

Dame Iulian,

Dame Iulian,

The Miller and his merry olde Wife,

shee scrapte her tripe licke thou the knife.

That this ancient rhyme has survived into the present day has been credited to James O. Halliwell[3] The modern words are:

Three blind mice. Three blind mice.

See how they run. See how they run.

They all ran after the farmer’s wife,

Who cut off their tails with a carving knife,

Did you ever see such a sight in your life,

As three blind mice?

Less than convincing attempts to read historical significance into the words has led to the speculation that this musical round was written earlier and refers to Queen Mary I of England blinding and executing three Protestant bishops (History tells us that Ridley, Latimer and Cranmer were burned at the stake, not blinded). The earliest lyrics do not talk about directly killing the three blind mice and are dated after Queen Mary died, however, “she scrapte her tripe licke thou the knife” implies they were prepared and consumed if not a reference to tasting the blood of a slain adversary.

There is a narrative ambiguity at the heart of the rhyme, which is the question over whether the mice are chasing the farmer’s wife after she cut their tails off, or whether she cut their tails off after they began chasing her.

Amateur music composer Thomas Oliphant (1799-1873) noted in 1843 that:

“This absurd old round is frequently brought to mind in the present day, from the circumstance of there being an instrumental Quartet by Weiss, through which runs a musical phrase accidentally the same as the notes applied to the word Three Blind Mice. They form a third descending, C, B, A”

What is Polyomino/Polyominoes?

Polyominoes with Surround Number 3

The surround number of a polyomino is the number of different
ways that the polyomino can be surrounded by non-overlapping copies of the
same shape. A polyomino is considered surrounded if every unit edge is shared
completely by a neighboring polyomino.

Here are some polyominoes with surround number 3, and the people
who found them:

Computer Keyboard Function Key F3

By admin

Computer keyboard function key F3

A computer keyboard function key is a key which programmed or can be programmed so as to reason an operating system command interpreter or application program to complete definite actions. On some systems, function keys may have default actions, accessible on power-on.

Under MS-DOS, individual programs could decide what each function key meant to them, and the command line had its own actions (e.g., F3 copied to the current command prompt words from the previous command). Internet Explorer in Windows does not list this keystroke in the help menu, but still responds with a help window. F3 is commonly used to activate a search function in applications, often cycling through results on successive presses of the key. Shift + F3 are often used to search backwards. Some applications such as Visual Studio support Ctrl + F3 as a means of searching for the currently highlighted text elsewhere in a document.

Trio or How to Establish Successul Teamwork

By admin

In life, all people regardless of their age, sex, belief, etc, surely must face and tackle problems. This problem solving mechanism is a unique feature, that only present in human and has been with every body since they are born. Babies must face problems related to basic survival on their first days on earth. When they grow up, still they have to face problems related to social relationship, learning their first “ABC” and many more. The same pattern continue until they begin acting as adults when they have to face much bigger problems, such as problems related to work, etc. So problem solving is an immutable fact in human life.

Despite all those facts, there are still many people knocked out by their problems. One of the reasons is the varying perspective toward problems. Some people would consider problems as obstacles to success while other perceive them as challenges and opportunities to grow. These different approaches to problems will generate different results. Those who might consider problems, as obstacles will be drowned by their problems, while others can emerge and grow by the challenges.

There are times when we don’t have the ability to solve problems by our self. That’s the time when we need others for support. There are many terms to describe this scenario; teamwork, collaboration, cooperation and many more. One question that may arise related to teamwork is how many people should involve in teamwork to make it optimal? Surely extra heads would do much favor than one, but from scientific view there’s a strong need to specify what number exactly needed?

Triggered by this question, researchers
at University of Illinois did the study on this matter, teamwork. The investigators enrolled 760 of the school’s students to solve complex letter and word problems. Some toiled as individuals while others functioned in-group of two, three, four or five. The groups of three, four and five performed better than any set of individuals.

The dynamic is sensitive, however. Teams of two performed at the same level as two separate people, suggesting it’s too small to foster the dynamics that create optimal problem solving. Also interesting is that groups of three, four and five did equally well compared with one another; there was no advantage to adding people beyond a trio.

Study leader Patrick R. Laughlin says that in addition to tackling workplace challenges, problem-solving groups might enhance classroom learning. Further research is needed to determine whether student groups perform better than individuals do in academic settings and, if so, at what ages and test.

The Meaning of Trinity Methaphor

By admin

God comes into this world as me, as you, as everyone since He created everyone, thus God manifests as people. The process through which that is accomplished can be seen through the difficult metaphor and principle of the trinity. Church fathers battled for cenuries over exactly how there could be just ONE God and yet say there are THREE Gods. It was not an easy conclusion to draw and an even more difficult one to explain.

But, try this practical outworking of the trinity on for size. If it doesn’t fit, don’t force it.

God-Father-Consciousness-Creator-Guide is THOUGHT, the originator of ALL. He (no gender intended) is the architect of all life and existence. And guess what, His THOUGHTS are not our thoughts because we’ve been inculturated by this world. God’s thoughts come from an unconditioned consciousness whereas our thought come from a human “conditioned consciousness.”

The Son is the WORD. Who will disagree with that? Few I would suspect. It is the WORD that creates everything that has been THOUGHT. Here is where FAITH enters in. It is “by faith” that the WORD is spoken (from the THOUGHTS that have been HEARD) that builds the bridge from the invisible, that which is NOT, to the visible (which is only temporal).

The Spirit then manifests, is the action, that brings to live and sight what was thought and spoken. Life is that simple and yet that difficult. It’s difficult because our THOUGHTS are most often not God’s. All of God’s thoughts are loved-laced, full of forgiveness, totally inclusive, tolerant, and non judgmental. Tell me who you know that lives like that!

So, in the end God comes as ME!

God lives life through you, me, and people. See people and you’re seeing a manifestation of God. The real journey of lfie isn’t about obeying this rule or that, but listening to the thoughts of God, speaking what you have heard, and then seeing such come into exietence. as Phil. 2:13 says, ” For God is working in you, He is as you, dwelling within us, giving us the desire to be AS him and thus the power to do what pleases him and transforms the world (Ernie’s paraphrase version- EPV).

The metaphor of the trinity transforms NOTHING when presented in religious garb, but it transforms all, everything of life, when viewed as the process through which we are to live life!
